Bank manager, husband on fraud charges

The manager of the Chaguanas branch of a commercial bank and her husband yesterday appeared before acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Nanette Forde-John on fraud charges after they were arrested when they allegedly tendered a fraudulent cheque at the bank.

Melissa Gopaul, 40, and Perry Pollard, 42, of Roystonia, Couva, appeared before Forde-John in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court who transferred the matter to the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court.

The couple will reappear on Friday.

It is alleged that the banker tendered a cheque at the bank purportedly issued by the Central Bank and drawn on the account of the Arima Borough Corporation in the amount of $412,490 on behalf of her husband.

Charges were laid by Cpl Ramdial after an investigation by Fraud Squad members ASP Ken Ghisyawan, Insp Abbott, Cpl Bassarat led by Snr Supt Totaran Dookhie.
