Artist Kibwe Loreilhe showcases Elemental Memoirs

Elemental Memoirs, an exhibition by Kibwe Loreilhe, will showcase his artistic evolution, blending technique, texture and emotion to create a powerful visual narrative.

The exhibition offers a glimpse into Kibwe’s journey of growth, transformation and creative exploration, a media release said.

Kibwe describes his work as "modern realism with Caribbean influence."

Born in 1987, the artist lives and works in Trinidad and Tobago. He began exhibiting at 20 and has evolved from detailed oil and acrylic renderings to a more confident, dynamic style, the release said.

"Art is never just about the finished piece, it is a journey, a process, a relentless search for depth and meaning," Kibwe said in the release.

Elemental Memoirs is not only an exhibition, it is a testament to the dedication, patience, and passion poured into every detail. Each piece carries the weight of Kibwe’s personal experiences and emotions, meticulously crafted to reflect the artist’s ongoing pursuit of meaning and self-expression, the release said.

This exhibition is marked by energetic colours, textural impressions, elements of cubism, intricate burnings onto wood, and dynamic collage combinations. The work seamlessly merges different mediums, creating pieces that are deeply personal yet universally resonant.

“Memoirs are the memorabilia of who we are as a people, the stories, moments, and emotions that shape us and this body of work breathes life into those elements, weaving together the tangible and the intangible, the seen and the felt,” Kibwe said.

Viewers are invited to immerse themselves in the depth of his work, to witness the story within each piece, and perhaps to discover a piece that speaks to their own personal journey, the release said.

Elemental Memoirs opens February 18, from 6.30 pm-8 pm, at Horizons Art Gallery, 37 Mucurapo Road, St James. It continues until March 1, from 8.30 am-5 pm Mondays to Fridays, and 9 am-1 pm on Saturdays.
