Disturbed by oval cricket museum news

THE EDITOR: It was most disturbing to read about the closure of the cricket museum at the QP Oval, noted by Gordon Laughlin in a letter to Newsday a couple days ago.

Three members of my family including myself visited the museum in 2019, organised by my cousin Cecily, as we wanted some data on her dad (my uncle) Cecil Pouchet, who played cricket for TT between 1938 and 1949.

Stephen Almondoz, the archivist, was so gracious and accommodating as he willingly showed us around and let us explore and read as much as we wanted in this quite amazing place. It was a wonderful experience as there’s so much knowledge and many memories stored there – all the work of Almondoz.

It's hard to believe that such a place could be left to fall by the wayside. I don’t know who is in charge at the Oval these days but they seem to have no vision and are extremely short-sighted. Nobody knows and apparently nobody cares about preserving history.

What a pity that so many years of work could possibly be left to just get dusty and lost in the passage of time.
