True election reform vital

THE EDITOR: Well done Eric Williams, big up yourself. The PNM has scraped through to win another election. This debate is brought up every election season ad nauseam, but by the look of that map the UNC should have been in office all now.

Why are Point Fortin and Arima such little dots? And how come Tunapuna/Piarco has 16 seats, unlike others that possess eight? As a matter of fact, why does Tunapuna have one MP for its 16 seats compared to Diego Martin that has three MPs for its ten seats?

Don’t try that! Don’t tell me that the corporations and seats are divided according to population density. We are years ahead of independence. Just like Tobago, the population has gone up and people are living in places that we used to think were “bush.”

If that’s really the case, then why for every election does the UNC always get more votes overall or the popular vote? The boundaries of all jurisdictions need to be "reinvented" independently.

It seems people like dirty drains, potholes so deep that we can feel it in our bellies when our car goes into one, and property tax on our house that bandits looking to "run up in."

Brace yourselves for a bitter-sweet budget. Colm Imbert, that’s your cue, do what you want with gas prices. Sigh, may God help us all.
