A man identified as Joshua Warren died on Friday night while being treated for self-inflicted wounds at the Arima Health Facility. Earlier, police tried to prevent him from taking his life.

Reports said that around 8.20 pm Warren was standing in the road opposite the Valencia Police Post when police saw him take a broken glass bottle and begin injuring himself.

They tried to take the bottle from his hand  and there was a struggle.

More police came to their colleagues' aid and together they managed to restrain Warren. They took him to the Arima Health Facility for treatment for self-inflicted wounds to his neck.

While being treated, he began to behave erratically, but Northern Division police managed to restrain him. However, he was pronounced dead while being treated around 10.45 pm.

Two officers were slightly injured in the struggle. They were treated at the Sangre Grande Hospital and later discharged.
