India crush West Indies in first One Day International

WEST Indies could only bat for 23 overs on Thursday in the first One Day International against India which led the regional team to a five-wicket defeat at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Batting first, West Indies were all out for 114 as only captain Shai Hope offered resistance with 43 off 45 deliveries.

West Indies were 88/3 in the 16th over, but then lost their last seven wickets for 26 runs. Alick Athanaze (22), Brandon King (17) and Shimron Hetmyer (11) were the other West Indies batsmen to reach double figures.

The India left-arm spinners did most of the damage as Kuldeep Yadav ended with excellent figures of 4/6 in three overs and Ravindra Jadeja grabbed 3/37 in six overs.

In reply, India got to 118/5 in 22.5 overs with Ishan Kishan leading the way with 52 off 46 balls (seven fours, one six).

Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie was the most successful bowler for West Indies taking 2/26 in 6.5 overs.

The second ODI of the three-match series will be played at Kensington Oval on Saturday from 9.30 am.
