The Alias Entertainment Expo returns with international voice actors from the world of anime coming to the shores of TT. The expo takes place this weekend, July 28-30.

A media release said, twin duo Pros and Cons Cosplay, Carolina Ravassa, and Sean Chiplock will be in attendance for the first expo since the pandemic.

Pros and Cons will host a Cosplay Horror Stories panel during the opening ceremony on Friday and will also judge Cosplay Masquerade on Sunday.

International Cosplayers Yaya Han, CowbuttCrunchies, Shema Arroyo, Inspector Lemon and Akrcos will judge the Caribbean Cosplay Championships, a hybrid event which has seen participation from people all over the region from Panama, Dominican Republic, The Bahamas and Barbados among others.

Ravassa is known for voicing Sombra in Overwatch and Raze in Valorant and Chiplock is the voice of Diluc in Gendhin Impact, Revali, Teba, and the Great Deku Tree from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Themed Rise of the Dragon, the expo will take place over three days, beginning with a parade in Port of Spain on Friday, July 28 from 12 noon and the official opening ceremony at Nalis on Abercromby Street.

Saturday and Sunday will see the event moving to the Centre of Excellence in Macoya and promises to be a true smorgasbord of activities for those into anime, gaming, cosplay and music, the release said.

The weekend will include a Met Cosplay Gala themed Dreams and Nightmares, a K-Pop festival featuring local talent and an after party starring Iwer George in the first live soca performance since the festival’s inception in 2011.

In keeping with the theme, Rise of the Dragon, Alias Entertainment has partnered with Lyfe Fitness to stage the House of the Flying Dragons. Lyfe, a studio that specialises in aerial arts, pole dancing and bungee exercises, will showcase those activities as well as provide acrobatic performances at the gala.

The Alias brand started around 2011 as a cosplay party and has evolved into the biggest expo of its type in the region.

The event focuses on anime, comic books, cosplay and gaming and provides a community space for fans of each to connect and learn., the release said,

The woman behind the event, who goes by her cosplay name Panterona said she wanted to bring what she experienced abroad back to Trinidad.

She said the actual goal is to build a community and market for events like this in TT.

“The market is there. There is more potential now for growth than before,” she said.
