Josiah Hills, Makeda Bain crowned U14 Sagicor Tennis singles champions

Josiah Hills and Makeda Bain were crowned respective champions of the Sagicor Junior Tennis Tournament boys’ and girls' Under-14 singles divisions at the Eddie Taylor Public Courts, Nelson Mandela Park, St Clair on Saturday.

Top seed and national U14 champion Hills lifted the trophy after breezing past Christopher Khan 6-3, 6-0 in the final.

Earlier in the day, Hill defeated Brian Harricharan 6-7 (4), 7-5, 10-6 while Khan bettered Darius Rahaman 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 in their respective semi-finals.

In the women’s equivalent, second seed Bain produced an upset victory in the final as she topped the division’s top seed Abba Campbell-Smith 7-5, 6-2.

The semi-final matches saw Bain trump Charde Sylvester 6-1, 6-0 while Campbell-Smith blew past Cyra Ramcharan 6-1, 6-1.

Additionally, on Sunday, Daniel Ward had a strong start to his boys’ U10 division two singles campaign as he emerged 6-3 victor over Adam Nepaul and then snagged another win, via walkover, against Cian Clifford.
