Kamla's time has passed

THE EDITOR: Kamla Persad-Bissessar keeps saying the UNC party's membership voted for her in an internal election, and who is anybody to call for her to go or to question her leadership?

If I recall correctly, Rowley was re-elected in 2020 by the majority of Trinidad and Tobago to serve another five-year term, so by Kamla's principle, she should stay quiet and enjoy Rowley's leadership for five years. Not so?

Why is it okay to demand elections from Rowley and question his right to be prime minister, but it is not right for anyone to question the UNC internal elections and question Kamla's right to be leader of the UNC?

We are a democracy. The UNC is a democratic party and members have a right to call for a leader's head, just like Kamla and her right to daily call for Rowley's.

Right now, all I see from Kamla is desperation, insecurity and her fighting tooth and nail to remain relevant.

Kamla's speech on Monday wasn't geared toward winning any local election. It was a desperate plea to the UNC base not to abandon her because she "loves" them.

Kamla's style of politics has always been about emotional manipulation. Her priority isn't to beat the PNM, it is to remain leader of the UNC till the day she dies.

That doesn't show a woman who cares about UNC supporters, that shows a woman obsessed with power and office and who doesn't care that she is subjecting UNC supporters and the country to continued PNM rule.

That is not love. That is a person who doesn't recognise her political time has expired and that there is a need for change and new blood.
