Attractive or hard-working?

THE EDITOR: Why isn’t the UNC attractive?

Ramona, Fuad, Devant, Vasant and Mickela followed Obika. Have no fear. Mrs Persad-Bissessar, this isn’t a sinking ship, this is a political detox.

The buzzwords went from “Kamla being weak” to “PNM and UNC are the same” and now, “The UNC isn’t attractive.”

What exactly does attractive mean? Are we the citizens going to wine up, sleep with or marry the UNC for us to vote them into office?

If that’s the case, then we are essentially judging a book by its cover.

Because according to letter-writer Lynette Joseph, who is the flagbearer for the PNM, political image is everything. So never mind the state of our roads, crime, school violence and indiscipline, flooding, no fire-fighting equipment, more taxes, high inflation etc.

Just stick with PNM because the UNC is not sexy enough.

Stand firm, Mrs Persad-Bissessar. Serve the people, serve the people, serve the people.

The job of public officials is to serve the nation. It’s incredible the magnitude of double standards that the UNC and Farley are held to, whereas the PNM is given a free pass by the police, independent institutions and mass media.

Politicians ought to earn their positions through performance and service to people. Not by donating a couple of AC units and spreading the gospel to be rewarded with a position or a contract in return.

If that is what “attractive” means, then Trinidad and Tobago will continue to sink. This country doesn't need a government or a local government that is “attractive.”

It needs a government that works for all and sundry. This country needs the UNC because they work for all and sundry now more than ever before.
