Show some care for other drivers, please

THE EDITOR: No wonder there are so many accidents on our roads with the kind of people who drive for no one but themselves, not caring about the other drivers who use the same roads as they do.

The other night I was heading north through Claxton Bay on the Southern Main Road. Upon reaching the Claxton Bay junction there was a line of standstill traffic on the southbound side.

A vehicle stuck in that line had his high beams at "full blast," blinding myself and I am sure other drivers who were heading north. With those very bright beams in my eyes I saw stars. I couldn’t see anything else for those high beams had blinded me.

I proceeded with the utmost caution and arriving abreast of that driver I asked him, “Pal, please dip your lights.”

His response was, “Dip meh lights? Why boy?” and he rolled up his window.

One day I stopped to allow another driver to reverse out of a parking space. I gave the necessary signal to indicate to the driver behind me to also stop, but that driver completely ignored my hand signal, passed me with speed, almost colliding with the vehicle I was allowing to come onto the main road.

A PH driver stopped to let a passenger out one night. I observed this and with no oncoming traffic I moved to pass him. The PH driver looked neither left, right, behind nor centre. He just pulled off when his passenger got out, almost broadsiding me in the process.

No wonder there are so many accidents on our roads with the totally indiscriminate drivers out there, or perhaps these drivers do not know simple etiquette. Maybe they should take their regulations over again.

I am appealing to all drivers of TT not to just drive for yourself. Take into consideration that there are other drivers and vehicles on the roads with you and observe all signals, signs and markings. And when driving at night, remember to dip your bright high beams.
