Marlon King's retrial set for November

MARLON King is likely to go on trial again for the murder of his stepdaughter Amy Emily Annamunthodo, later this year.

On Wednesday, Justice Hayden St Clair-Douglas set November 1 as the date for the possible start of King’s new trial.

On July 29, 2021 the Court of Appeal ordered a new trial after upholding King's appeal against conviction. King returns to court on October 19, for a status update as timelines were given to defence and prosecuting attorneys to file relevant documents.

King also has until September 14, to decide on what type of trial he wants – a jury or judge-only trial.

He was sentenced to hang for Annamunthodo’s murder after being convicted by a jury after six days of directions by then Justice Anthony Carmona.

Annamunthodo, four, was tortured and beaten to death in 2006. King was charged with killing the child at his home at Ste Madeleine Road, Marabella. He was in a common-law relationship with Annamunthodo’s mother, Anita.

Medical evidence was led that Amy was burnt with cigarettes an hour before she died. She suffered multiple internal and external injuries.

King is represented by attorneys Mario Merritt and Karunaa Bisramsingh while Maria Lyons-Edwards is prosecuting.
