Sagicor Jnr tennis: Bain, Hills double up on final day

MAKEDA Bain and Josiah Hills won two titles each on the closing day of the 2022 Sagicor Junior Tennis tournament at the Eddie Taylor Public Courts, Nelson Mandela Park, St Clair, on Thursday.

Bain, second-seeded in the girls Under-12 singles, defeated first-ranked Abba Campbell-Smith 5-4(2), 4-0 in the final.

Later on the day, Bain and Campbell-Smith combined to capture the girls Under-12 doubles crown with a 4-2, 4-1 victory over Karissa and Lilly Mohammed.

First-seeded Hills won his first title of the day when he defeated Christopher Khan 4-2, 4-2 in the boys Under-12 singles final.

Hills then teamed up with Jaysean Wells to claim the boys Under-12 doubles crown. Hills and Wells outlasted Jaeden Anthony and Novak Malcolm 4-0, 4-0.

It was also a memorable day for Connor Carrington. He copped the boys Under-14 singles crown with a 6-7(3), 6-3, 10-6 victory over Keyondre Duke.

In the girls Under-14 singles final, Gabriella Prince came from a set down to defeat Zahra Shamsi 4-6, 6-3, 10-4.
