Social Welfare must do better

THE EDITOR: I write this letter on behalf of an 89-year-old woman who does not have the facility to write letters.

She told me she had a June 29 appointment at the Social Welfare Division at the corner of Duke and Richmond Streets, Port of Spain, for the division to clarify that she is still alive.

When she got there the place was overcrowded with senior citizens. To make matters worse, it was raining and these seniors who had to wait outside had nowhere to shelter. She also had to use the washroom which was very dirty and in terrible condition.

Can’t this division do better for senior citizens? Why can’t it have offices in different locations.

On behalf of all senior citizens, I hope this letter serves to improve the situation.
