Port of Spain police save woman from ledge at Parkade

Port of Spain police are investigating an incident in which a woman reportedly considered jumping from the top of the Parkade car park, on Richmond Street, on Wednesday afternoon.

Passers-by said they noticed someone was sitting close to the edge of the top floor at around 12.30 pm.

A woman who runs a business on the ground floor of the Parkade said she saw people looking at the top of the building and went out to see what was happening. She said people on the ground tried to coax the woman off the ledge, but were not successful.

"I don't know what would have caused that young girl to go up on the top floor like that.

"We saw a police jeep passing and we flagged them down and they went up."

Other passers-by said the officers were able to grab the woman before she fell. She was taken to the Central Police Station, on St Vincent Street, where she was to be interviewed.

One man said he was surprised by the incident but was happy the passers-by and the public acted quickly to help.

"I'm just happy she is alive right now and I hope she gets whatever help she needs."
