Senior police in the Western Division and Homicide investigators are still trying to determine the identity of a headless body of a man found in St James on Saturday morning.

The decomposing body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, on Monday for storage pending identification. On Tuesday police said the body had still not been identified but they were considering several leads and reviewing a list of missing men in the area.

Investigators described the body as being in a "prime state of decomposition" and with no distinguishable tattoos, scars or marks of surgery.

Police are continuing enquiries.
