Pedestrian killed crossing Uriah Butler highway in Cunupia

POLICE are seeking the public's help to identify the body of a man who was knocked down and killed on Friday night along the Uriah Butler Highway, near Cunupia.

According to police, around 7 pm a 52-year-old driver reported that he was in the left lane heading south along the highway when he collided with a man who ran across the path of his Toyota Rav 4.

Police said, the accident took place near Bejucal Road. The man, who ran from west to east along the highway, is believed to be in his early sixties, approximately five feet, six inches tall and was wearing a pair of black pants and a dark grey jersey.

The man’s body was dragged a few feet before the driver stopped.

In an unrelated fatal accident, a 59-year-old Piparo man died on Friday after he was thrown from a dump truck which ran off the road.

Police said Nicholas Santana, of Dindial Settlement, was thrown out of the truck, sometime around 9.30 am after the driver swerved to after clipped the sideview mirror of another another dump truck heading in the opposite direction along the Guaracara Tabaquite Road, in Williamsville.

Santana died at the scene.
