Minister of Public Utilities Marvin Gonzales has told senior management at the Trinidad and Tobago Postal Corporation (TTPost) to commit to making the corporation less dependent on government subvention.

A release from the ministry said TTPost is undergoing "transformation initiatives," which Gonzales has said he fully supports.

Gonzales was speaking at a tour of TTPost's Piarco Mail Centre on Tuesday.

He urged the company’s management to redouble their efforts for future growth and business development, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the corporation. He said this was necessary as the country is operating under stringent economic circumstances.

The corporation needs to improve its operating procedures to be more effective in delivering mail to the people, he said.

The release said the minister was updated on the implementation of the S-42 standard addressing system by senior management, which is moving it into the next phase of the project.

Gonzales mandated that the corporation should have a public education campaign on the new system.

He said the system presented the corporation with an ideal opportunity to build public trust in it.
