Five players claim double success as Catch tennis ends

ETHAN WONG, Jaysean Wells, Kale Dalla Costa, Jaeda-Lee Daniel-Joseph and Makeda Bain all captured double crowns on the final day of the Catch Junior Tennis Championships which concluded on Friday.

At the Eddie Taylor Public Courts, Nelson Mandela Park in St Clair, the quintet showed class by affirming their dominance on the local junior circuit.

Wong started the day’s play with a title-winning 6-3, 6-2 performance over second seed Jamal Alexis in the boys’ Under-18 singles final.

Later on, he joined forces with Alexis to cop the boys’ 16-18 doubles trophy. The pair defeated Charles Deveaux and Sebastien Sylvester 6-0, 6-2.

In the boys’ Under-10 singles final, Wells clawed back from an opening set loss to wrestle the title away from Josiah Hills with a 2-4, 4-0, 10-7 result.

Similarly, Wells teamed up with Hills in the Under-10 doubles final to better Brian Thomasos and Zelig Williams 1-4, 4-0, 10-7.

Meanwhile, Daniel-Joseph breezed past Brianna Harricharan in the girls’ Under-14 singles trophy match. The top seed emerged victorious courtesy a 6-0, 6-2 scoreline.

Later in the day, Daniel-Joseph returned to the court to snag the girls’ Under-16 singles crown by defeating Ella Carrington 6-1, 6-4.

Additionally, Bain also made it two titles on the final day. She opened her account with a 4-0, 5-3 win over Ysanne Williams in the girls’ Under-10 singles final.

Bain then partnered with Anneleisa Orr to hoist the division’s doubles title by disposing top seeds Abba Campbell-Smith and Karissa Mohammed 4-2, 5-4(5).

Dalla Costa also crusied to back-to-back titles when he beat Zachery Byng 6-4, 6-2 in the boys’ Under-14 final. He followed up with a 3-6, 7-5, 10-5 doubles win, alongside K Siewrattan, over the duo of Isaiah Boxill and Yeshowah Campbell-Smith.
