Misleading claims by the SGRC chairman

THE EDITOR: Please allow me some space to refute statements made on national television by the chairman of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation (SGRC), Anil Juteram.

He claims that late releases of funding by the central government handicapped the corporation and restricted it’s daily operations. Such remarks are reckless, irresponsible and misleading.

After Juteram’s inauguration as chairman, I witnessed the changing of the colour of the rented building of the SGRC to yellow. On my question to the painters as to why yellow and not red, they, a few days later, reverted to the original colour – cream.

Presently, the SGRC is in the process of changing the colour of all road signs in the region from red to green, the same colour of the adjacent RCMRC. This is senseless, inappropriate and a waste of money in light of the present economic situation. Imagine during covid19 a new recreational facility was constructed at the North Oropouche Ground, adjacent to a non-functional facility which could have been repaired.

In my respectful view as a former chairman of the corporation, that money could have been used for necessities or to give burgesses a “ten days” for Christmas.

Under the chairmanship of Juteram, the SGRC is experiencing tremendous managerial problems, inefficiency, incompetence, and less productivity.

Soon, if corrective steps are not taken quickly, the region may be faced with a spike in covid19 cases or the spread of other communicable diseases. Will chairman Juteram act more responsibly and do better for the burgesses of Sangre Grande?
