A 44-year-old San Juan man is in custody after he assaulted and robbed a maxi taxi driver on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the driver was working along the Eastern Main Road, San Juan at around 2 pm when he picked up a man near the San Juan police substation.

When they reached Champs Fleurs, the man asked the driver to stop the maxi and started choking him. He demanded money and took more than $300 from him.

The driver called for help and the man was caught by police on patrol a short distance away.
