Calypsois alive and well

THE EDITOR: This month makes it 18 years TT has been celebrating and observing Calypso History Month.

This year’s theme is "Calypso, Beyond Boundaries and Borders." It sees homage being paid to "calypso's influence on cultures around the world and their deep-seeded connection to TT."

All of TT has had an input in calypso. The Mighty Indian, Drupatee, Rex West and the Mighty Trini, for instance.

We have sung calypsoes from emancipation to independence. Through calypso our stories are told.

Calypso is not dead. It has developed and evolved.

My favourite two calypsoes? Pacro Water by Tobago Crusoe and Congo Man by Sparrow.
