Another death, 64 more test positive for covid19

TT has recorded yet another death from covid19 and 64 more people testing positive for the virus.

The Ministry of Health in its Thursday evening update reported a new covid19-related death, an elderly male with co-morbidities. The total number of covid19 related deaths now stand at 29.

In the morning update it was reported that the number of active cases increased by 21 and then in the afternoon update it was reported 43 additional people tested positive. The ministry stressed the 21 new cases show results from samples taken during August 28 to September 2, and the 43 cases show results from samples taken during the period August 28-September 3, and therefore neither was representative of the positive cases over the last 24 hours only. The total number of active cases now stands at 1,255.

Nine people have been discharged bringing the total to 700. There are 96 patients in hospital – 73 people at the Couva hospital, of whom seven are in ICU and 12 in the High Dependency Unit, while 23 people are at Caura. There are currently six people in step-down facilities – five in UWI, Debe and one at NAPA.

The ministry said 1,090 patients are in home isolation and being monitored by the County Medical Officer of Health offices.

The number of samples submitted to Carpha, UWI and other testing sites was 24,449 and 1,984 samples have tested positive.
