Bail for Tobago policeman on sex charge

A POLICEMAN in the Tobago Division has been granted $175,000 bail with a surety or $25,000 cash alternative, after appearing before a Scarborough Magistrate last Friday.

The 24-year-old officer appeared before Magistrate Sherene Murray-Bailey charged with four counts of sexual penetration of a 15-year-old female victim, following advice received from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard, SC, last Thursday.

The matter has been postponed to July 24. The accused was charged by Acting Sgt Cavelle Mills-Walters of the Tobago Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) following a report made to officers surrounding alleged sexual abuse over an extended

period of time. The investigation was supervised by Acting Supt George, ASP Nowbutt and Sgt Miller.
