Nadine Payne says while she is still searching for a job, she is cautiously optimistic for the future as she begins to repair her life after the murder of her 16-year-old son Micah in May.

Payne was evicted from her apartment by her landlord on June 5, the day of her son's funeral.

Micah was shot dead in a drive-by shooting on Foncette Road, Cascade, on May 28. Another man, Lincoln Gobersingh, was also killed in the attack.

She asked the public for help in finding a job.

Newsday spoke to Payne, 42, on Wednesday. She said while there had been an outpouring of support from good samaritans, she is still looking for work to support herself and her two other children.

On family life in the aftermath of Micah's murder, she said she was still trying to come to terms with his death while providing emotional support for her nine-year-old daughter.

"For now I have my children with me. We're staying with my mother. But I'm still looking for a job. Hopefully everything will work out.

"She (her daughter) has been crying and worrying about going back out to school, but I'm grateful for the support from the family services in calling me and asking how I'm going."

"Right now I just want peace of mind. I'm not sure where I'm at mentally, I'm trying to find myself I think I'm working on autopilot. It was a lot for me and I'm still traumatised."

She said they would stay with her mother for the time being. "I want to be secure in a job before I get somewhere for myself."

Payne said she was grateful for the support of her family, especially her brother Cocian Febeck.
