2016 Olympic shot put finalist Cleopatra Borel was chosen as the PNM's Port of Spain South prospective candidate by the party's screening committee on Thursday. In confirming this on Friday, the party's PRO Laurel Lezama-Lee Sing told Newsday that incumbent PoS South MP Marlene Mc Donald did not present herself for screening.

While fromer NNV leader Fuad Abu Bakr visited the Queen's Hall screening venue, he was not screened, Lezama-Lee Sing also confirmed. The PNM also on Thursday chose former West Indies and TT cricketer Mervyn Dillon for Toco/Sangre Grande replacing incumbent MP, Glenda Jennings-Smith.

Robert Le Hunte, former public utilities minister, was screened for La Brea, along with incumbent Nicole Olivierre, but the constituency executive was asked to widen its pool of nominees, the PNM's PRO said.

Diego Martin Regional Corporation chairman Symon de Nobriga was chosen as Diego Martin Central prospective candidate. Point Fortin Mayor Kennedy Richards Jnr was selected for the Point Fortin seat held by Edmund Dillon. Clifford Rambharose is the prospective candidate for Oropouche East.

OUT: Former Cabinet member Marlene McDonald, who will not be contesting the Port of Spain South seat for the PNM in the general elections, having not shown up on Thursday to be screened by the party. - Sureash Cholai
