No bail for 4 of 5 men on sex assault charges

Four of the five men who are on charges for sexual assault against four minors have been remanded in custody. The men appeared before a Chaguanas Magistrate on Monday for the acts committed on the children aged seven to 11, of whom three are girls and one is a boy.

The men are to reappear in court on June 5. The other was released on bail and ordered to report to the Freeport police on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The men, ages 24 to 70, who are relatives of the minors were arrested on Friday by officers assigned to the Central Division’s Child Protection Unit (CPU) during an anti-crime exercise in central Trinidad.

The investigation was conducted by Supt Natasha George of the CPU and was assisted by Ag Insp Boodoo, Sgt Ramnarine and Ag W/Cpl Kassie and other police of the Central Division’s CPU.
