NESTLÉ has joined forces with the Red Cross Society by donating over $500,000 to support the fight against the covid19 pandemic.

In addition to this, Nestlé said in a press release, it will also provide in kind $20,000 worth of products to the Red Cross.

The announcement was made on Friday at a cheque handover ceremony at the Nestlé office in Valsayn. Patricio Torres, head of Nestlé Anglo Dutch Caribbean operations, reaffirmed Nestlé’s commitment to citizens and communities in TT.

“Nestlé Trinidad and Tobago Ltd has an essential role to play in the fight against the pandemic. At Nestlé, our purpose is to enhance the quality of life and contribute to a healthier future. Our responsibility to provide good nutrition extends especially to the most vulnerable populations - children, the elderly, and those with underlying medical conditions.”

As the health crisis deepens, Nestlé recognises urgent help is needed by emergency services and caregivers, and to strengthen healthcare systems. Its donation to the Red Cross will support:

· Livelihoods and basic needs – ensuring food security to the vulnerable populations who have lost income due to quarantine or illness.

· Health – communicating epidemic control at all levels, transport via ambulances and psychosocial support for the affected.

During the handover ceremony, Jill De Bourg, president of the TT Red Cross Society, said, “The pandemic is not only a public health crisis but a humanitarian crisis that is impacting the health, lives, and livelihood of people around the world.

"This crisis requires the efforts of all – a true societal approach! The TT Red Cross is committed to supporting communities, encouraging solidarity in line with our seven fundamental principles while reminding everyone to be responsible!"

She also applauded the efforts and selfless dedication of all of the society's volunteers and staff. Nestlé, in its release, assured customers and consumers that it will continue to produce and deliver products to meet the country’s demand. "Our employees are fully committed and are working tirelessly to ensure that supply is maintained."

Nestlé thanked all frontline workers for their unwavering dedication to contain and combat the virus. It encouraged every citizen to follow the guidelines of the authorities and stay home unless absolutely necessary.
