POWERGEN Penal Sports Club sealed the TT Cricket Board National League Premiership two-day title after earning enough points on day one of the final round of competition, yesterday.

PowerGen earned three points against Alescon Comets at the Pierre Road Recreation Ground in Charlieville to seal the title.

Speaking with Newsday yesterday, PowerGen coach Gibran Mohammed said, "Last season we were to the bottom of the table. A lot of planning and a lot of hard work went into this season and the guys started training since November last year. We really regrouped, (but) it is the same bunch of guys basically, we just added (Royston) Crandon to the set up."

The coach said a number of people contributed, but praised spin bowler Kavesh Kantasingh who was the leading wicket taker on the team. "This season we have clicked as a batting unit, Kantasingh has been tremendous and it is a total team effort."

Talking more about Kantasingh, Mohammed said, "He is a seasoned campaigner, he is getting a bit of ill treatment from the TT cricket board but day by day he motivates himself to come and put in performances for the team."

Mohammed said after failing to advance to the quarterfinals of the 50-over competition, his team is hoping for a strong run in the T20 competition.

Batting first yesterday, PowerGen scored 198 which got the team one batting point. Crandon top scored with 60 and TT Red Force batsman Jason Mohammed struck 47. Bowling for Comets, leg spinner Imran Khan took 4/48 and Rayad Emrit snatched 2/25.

Comets closed day one on 90/5 which gave PowerGen two bowling points. Christopher Barnwell scored 30 and Navin Bidaisee scored 28 and bowling for PowerGen Kantasingh continued his productive season taking two wickets.

In another match yesterday, TT Red Force batsman Kyle Hope slammed 117 off 102 balls with 14 fours and three sixes to put Clarke Road in a commanding position against El Socorro Youth Movement. Hope's knock took Clarke Road to 311/5 after dismissing EYM for 111 earlier in the day.
