Minister of Tourism Randall Mitchell yesterday visited Maracas Beach to get a first-hand look at work underway since the Urban Development Corporation (Udecott) took over administration and management of the facilities there.

A release from the Ministry of Tourism said a facilities management contract (FMC) was signed on December 24 between the ministry and Udecott .

Mitchell, who was accompanied by Udecott officials, expressed confidence that the beach facilities will be restored and upgraded to the satisfaction of all.

He said, “Very early in my tenure I recognised the need for an experienced facilities manager at Maracas and suggested that the facilities management services of Udecott be used. I am happy to come to Maracas today to see the quality of work that has already been done.”

The release said the beach is being cleaned by removing debris such as fallen branches and exposed steel and concrete from prior construction. Work is also being done to level the sand to determine which areas need additional sand.

Udecott is reportedly expected to ensure that the beach operates to an internationally accepted standard with optimum value to all patrons.
