VISITORS to downtown Port of Spain can expect to see an increased police presence along the streets beginning at 9 am yesterday and continuing until Sunday morning.

In addition to mobile patrols, police of various stations will be mandated to carry out foot patrols to try and minimise chances of robberies and other crimes in the city.

One senior officer said while mobile patrols were necessary, foot patrols were important in deterring incidents of robberies and said the increased presence was aimed at providing shoppers with greater comfort and security.

In an unrelated incident, over 33 municipal police constables were promoted to the rank of corporal on Tuesday afternoon during a brief ceremony at City Hall, Port of Spain. The ceremony was officiated by ACP Brian Headley of the Municipal Police.
