2 men shot dead

UPDATE:

TWO men were killed hours apart in separate shootings on Friday, while in a third incident a man has been deemed brain dead after he was shot once in the head last Tuesday.
In the most recent killings, Maraval resident Kendell Pierre, 34, was found shot dead at the back of his neighbour’s home around 11 pm.

Pierre, a construction worker of Clovis Trace, Maraval, was on his way to bathe to the back of his home when relatives heard gunshots and later found him dead in his neighbour’s yard. Police believe that after he was shot he ran a short distance and collapsed.
Police said they have no motive for his killing.

The second murder took place at Beetham Gardens when 31-year-old Kareem Douglas was on his way home.

Police said Douglas was not known to be involved in criminal activity.

Douglas, a truck driver with Flavourite Co Ltd, was on his way to his home on 21 Street when he was shot. He was found on the road with a bullet wound to the head at about 6 pm.
His killing is believed to be linked to reports that he was an “informer” who gave information to a rogue police officer. Police could neither confirm nor deny this allegation only saying that Douglas did not have a criminal record.

Douglas’ brother, Garvin, was also murdered in Beetham and this case remains unsolved. Garvin was killed at his home on 23rd Street on March 28, 2017. He too did not have a criminal record.

After Douglas’ murder on Friday, police conducted a raid and arrested a 23-year-old man.
The man was allegedly found with an XD 9 sub compact pistol and 10 rounds of .9mm ammunition when Inter-Agency Task Force searched his house.

The crime exercise targeted a “reputed crime figure” in the area, police said, but this person was not arrested.

In an update on another case, Chavez Toppin who was shot once in the head while liming on George Street, Port of Spain is now on life support after doctors deemed he no longer had any brain activity.

Around 8.20 am last Tuesday, Toppin, 25, was sitting in a car with a woman when a gunman, whose face was partially covered with a black bandana, approached and shot him. Toppin was taken to Port of Spain General Hospital where he was treated and placed in the intensive care unit.
