Extensions for two other top cops

Acting Deputy Commissioners of Police Deodat Dulalchan and Harold Phillip have received six month extensions to their acting appointments.

Last Thursday the director of Personnel Administration signed the two letters of extension which were made available to the two senior officers. The two periods of extension are from April 1 to September 30 of this year.

Acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams also got a similar letter extending his acting position to September 30.

However the acting COP who has over two years vacation leave is expected to proceed on some of the leave by the end of May.

Acting DCP Dulalchan was the PSC’s nominee for Police Commissioner but his nomination was rejected by the House of Representatives.

A special select comittee was appointed by the Lower House to probe the selection process and a report is expected to be made available to the House shortly.

Sources revealed that the report should be presented in two weeks’ time and government has the option of having the entire selection process for Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner be redone.

They also have the choice of asking the PSC to release the name of the nominee whose name appears second on the order of merit list to President Paula May-Weekes for vetting in the House of Representatives.
