A TOBAGO man who saw his neighbour’s car being driven by a stranger alerted police who nabbed the driver and took him into custody.

When they went to the home of the car’s owner at Milford Road in Shaw Park, they found her dead in the bathroom. The victim, identified as Neila Samuel, 90, was last seen alive by neighbours on Saturday.

Police reported that she lived alone, but neighbours kept a close eye on her and often visited.

According to reports, at 1 am yesterday, a resident of Calder Hall osaw the woman’s Nissan Juke being driven in the Crown Point area. He called police, who intercepted the car and held a 52-year-old man of Diamond Village, San Fernando.

When police questioned the man he refused to say anything.

Investigators went to the home of the owner of the car and found tit locked.. They called out to the owner, but got no response. There was a foul smell coming from the house and when they broke down a door they found Samuel’s body in the bathroom. Her prosthetic leg was found close by.

A district medical officer was called but did not find any visible injuries. The body was taken to the Scarborough hospital and an autopsy is expected to be carried out to determine the cause of death.

Yesterday, after the discovery of the body, the man in custody said he had borrowed the car from a friend and knew nothing about Samuel being the owner or being dead.

He remained in custody up to press time and police were further questioning him up until late yesterday.
