Rowley: TT very much part of Paris Agreement

CARLA BRIDGLAL

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has assured that this country is “very much” part of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

“We didn’t just rush in. We looked very carefully at what was required of us, the cost and effect on the country, and when we were satisfied the arrangement was what we could live with, we did,” Rowley said, acknowledging that some of the concessions will be on hydrocarbon reductions—the primary economic earner for the country.

TT ratified the Paris Agreement on Monday. Rowley spoke to reporters on Wednesday evening at the Piarco International Airport, after his return from a Caricom Heads of Government meeting in Haiti.

He said there had been a long discussion on climate change among participants, and Caribbean territories were “very involved in the whole reporting” of climate change in the region.

“We are being affected very severely. In some instances, some countries are already participating at the local level,” he said.
