Police investigate boy’s jet ski death

AN investigation has started into the death of Scarborough Methodist primary school student Shem Murray. This was told to Newsday yesterday by Tobago Regional Commander Snr Supt Joanne Archie.

It was reported that Shem, 13, a Standard 5 student, died from injuries sustained in a jet ski accident sometime in January.

He was operating a jet ski near the Pigeon Point beach when the bottom of the craft hit a coral reef below the water.

He was taken to the Scarborough General Hospital and later transferred to a hospital in Trinidad where he was put on life support.

“Incidentally, the police never received a report on this,” Archie said.

“I don’t know why the matter was never reported to us, but I would have since sent out some officers and an investigation has been initiated.

“So, we really don’t know anything other than what was seen in the media.”

Contacted on Monday, one family member said they are still trying to come to terms with Shem’s death and was seeking some privacy.
