4100 households given food cards

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas for 4100 households which have received food support from the Ministry of Social Development.

According to a release sent to the media yesterday, the ministry began giving out the cards since Monday, and have since given cards in 33 of the 41 constituencies.

The people chosen for the cards were selected by their respective MPs.

“The ministry seeks to ensure that vulnerable families who are experiencing hardship and are unable to fully provide for the nutritional needs of their respective families are provided with the necessary support. This is in keeping with the spirit of caring and giving that the season of Christmas represents. It is our hope that this support will bring some cheer to the families,” the release said.

Each card is worth $410 and is redeemable at most merchants. The ministry also advised that people who are unable to collect their cards on the designated day may do so at their respective Social Welfare district offices until December 31. People who may experience difficulties with accessing the funds on their cards should immediately return the cards to the social welfare district office nearest to their residence so the cards may be replaced.
