No GATE application from student

A senior official at the Ministry of Education said Shantel Perouza had not applied for Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses (GATE) funding since the first semester of the 2014/2015 academic year.

This came in response to a story in yesterday’s Newsday which highlighted that Perouza, a final year student at the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) was pleading to sit her two final exams, as she faced debarment.

Perouza is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in general nursing.

The official said Perouza’s “last GATE application for funding was for semester one of 2014/2015 academic year.”

The official added the 2015/2016 academic year was closed and that she would have to apply for GATE funding for 2016/2017.
