Top cop hopefuls undergo medical

The final candidates chosen for the third phase in the selection process for Police Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners have undergone medical tests before the final points are tallied. On Monday, medicals began at Westshore Medical, where some of the finalists underwent what is known as Bruns Executive Medical.

The medical involves prostate testing, as well as heart and blood pressure tests. A blood test was taken to verify liver and kidney function as well as the presence of STDs.

Sources revealed that acting commissioner Williams appears to be leading the race for the substantive post followed closely by former Minister of National Security Gary Griffith, president of the Police Social Welfare Association Michael Seales and former association president, calypsonian Wayne “Watchman” Hayde.

Sources also said secretary of the association Anand Ramesar, ACP Harikrishen Baldeo and acting ACP Mc Donald Jacob are among the finalists for deputy commissioners. This could change following security vetting and medicals.

According to well-placed sources, the Police Service Commission and recruiting firm KPMG are expected to complete the assignment by the second week in December. The names of those topping the short-list are expected to be sent to the President by mid-December and the new top three cops should be in office by year’s end.
