Former Chaguanas Mayor Natasha Navas, who sought refuge at a Cunupia temple several days ago, claiming she was waiting for someone to pick her up, has been moved to an apartment at Madras Road in St Helena.

Navas, who spoke during a brief telephone interview, said that contrary to what is being said about her, she is not mentally challenged. “I am not mad, it is just that my relatives are driving me up a wall and I just want to be alone,” she said. She said her brother paid for an apartment for her and she was given food by a cousin who lives nearby.

Navas, a mother of three, was staying at the Gyan Jyoti Mandali Temple. She said Pundit Jaidath Maharaj and his wife were very good to her by giving her food and allowing her to use the temple.

“I am not going to any mental institution. My relatives cannot force me to go there. I am not crazy, but I need help.”

When asked what help she needed, Navas hung up the phone.
