No bail for accused car thief

A Couva magistrate, on Wednesday, denied bail to a man who, on Friday last week, allegedly robbed a 65-year-old woman and her son of their car and $400 cash.

Alex Duprey, 30, of Temple Street off Brickfield Road, Carapichaima, appeared before Couva Magistrate Siumongal Ramsaran. It is alleged Duprey and other people stole a Toyota Axio in the Couva district.

The owners reported the matter to the Couva CID and Sgt Ken Ali and other police conducted investigations. PC Andrews charged Duprey with larceny of the car and stealing the cash.

Prosecutor Sgt Ali objected to bail on the basis that the accused has three pending matters.

Ramsaran denied bail and remanded Duprey into custody to reappear on October 10.
