State carrier Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL) says it provided more than 35,000 seats on the air bridge during the busy Christmas season. Specifically, for the period December 20, 2017 to January 1, 2018, 38,236 seats were provided, with 33,050 of those being used. CAL operated 494 flights and 12,419 people who did not hold confirmed bookings were accommodated on those flights.

While the state-owned airline did not make reference to a recent protest by standby passengers, it did assure that “the domestic air bridge is a significant part of CAL’s operations and it is given top priority.”

“Several scheduled flights were consolidated and upgraded to Boeing 737 jet services to ensure that all confirmed passengers travelling between Trinidad and Tobago during the Christmas peak were successfully transported.” CAL also said people who did not hold confirmed bookings were also able to travel between the islands.
