Murder in St Barbs

A teenager from Laventille became the nation’s 428th murder victim for this year when he was fatally shot along a stairwell on Saturday not too far from his home.

According to police, at about 2.20 pm, Port of Spain Division Task Force officers were on mobile patrol when they heard rapid gunfire. When they checked, the officers came across Richard Smith bleeding on the stairwell in St Barbs. They took the man to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Smith’s body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James where an autopsy will be done today.

No arrest has been made and police believe Smith’s murder may have been gang-related. Investigations are ongoing.
