Baboolal, Chebwogen claim Maritime 5K titles

Shirvan Baboolal and Mercy Chebwogen captured the men’s and women’s titles respectively when the Run for Fun Maritime 5K took place at Nelson Mandela Park in St Clair, on Saturday.

Baboolal won the men’s title in 15 minutes and 44 seconds (15.44) in an event which attracted over 900 participants.

George Smith earned silver in 15.57 and Kelvin Johnson claimed bronze in 16.08. Rounding off the top five were Jassette Bromfield (16.11) and Anthony Phillip (16.19).

Kenyan Chebwogen easily won the women’s title in 18.06, finishing ahead of Samantha Shukla who copped silver in 19.32.

Also earning a spot on the podium was Sarah Hosang who was third in 22.27.

The competitors ran in various age divisions including 12 and Under, 13-20, 21-30, 31-40 and 41 and Over.
