Cricket fraternity hopes for PM’s recovery

THE cricket community has wished a speedy recovery to the Prime Minister, who on Tuesday announced that he had tested positive for covid19.

Dr Rowley is in quarantine at the PM's official residence in Blenheim, Tobago and receiving specialised medical treatment.

President of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) Azim Bassarath on Thursday said the cricket fraternity joins the rest of the national community in being saddened to hear about Rowley.

“The TTCB is aware that Dr Rowley is a friend of cricket and follows the game closely. We are certain that he will fend off the vicious bouncer that he has been served as any competent batsman will do,” said Bassarath.

He said members of the victorious Red Force team had asked to meet Rowley and present him with the recently captured CG Insurance Super50 trophy won in Antigua and Barbuda, but it was not logistically possible at the time.

Bassarath said it would be especially meaningful when Rowley recovers fully and is out of quarantine and can meet members of the team to accept their token of appreciation and for him to congratulate them on their outstanding performance in the regional tournament.

“It will be a fitting welcome back for the Prime Minister whose Ministry of Sport, and the Sport Company of TT have both made a meaningful contribution to prepare the Red Force cricketers and lay the foundation for their recent phenomenal success,” said Bassarath.
