DESPITE the financial strain of pandemic, Morvant resident and entrepreneur David Hartman is determined to "give back" to the less fortunate and is encouraging others to do their part in improving the lives of others.

Hartman, his wife Alanda, aunt Sandra and a team of associates distributed 100 meals and face masks for the homeless in east Port of Spain last Sunday.

Speaking with Newsday, Hartman, 24, the owner of Head and Hart mini-mart in Marie Road, Morvant, said he was happy to be part of the initiative and hoped to have other similar distributions more frequently.

“I got together with a few people I knew and discussed the idea with them. They agreed that it would be good so we organised cooking meals and bought the face masks for distribution. It was a great project. Words can’t fully express how happy this has made me.”

Hartman said while he is pleased with the feedback, he hopes to have other food distributions on the third Sunday of every month and is calling on other businesses and private citizens to donate their time or resources to helping others.

“We are hoping for the group to get bigger, that’s our primary objective. We are looking for sponsorship for October 17, when we hope to have another distribution, so I’m encouraging others to come out and do the same.”

The meals were prepared by various members of the group at their homes and distributed at Riverside Plaza, East Dry River, Port of Spain. Hartman thanked the participants and Laventille East/ Morvant MP Adrian Leonce for their help.
