Robinson-Regis: Galleons Passage seaworthy
LEADER of Government Business Camille Robinson-Regis said there is no truth to reports that the Galleons Passage was not seaworthy.
She was responding to an urgent question in the House on Friday from Couva North MP Ramona Ramdial. She asked, given unconfirmed reports that the Galleons Passage vessel was currently sailing in an unseaworthy condition owing to a malfunctioning bow door, if Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan could assure the House that he is giving the matter his urgent attention.
Robinson-Regis, replying on Sinanan's behalf, said there was "absolutely no truth to this statement."
Ramdial then asked her to confirm a report that the TT Spirit was not sailing owing to strike action, but deputy Speaker Esmond Forde did not allow the question.
The Seaman and Waterfront Workers Trade Union protested this week outside the Port Authority of TT at Dock Road, Port of Spain, to highlight poor working conditions and outstanding remuneration issues. The protests have been blamed by the TT Inter-island Transportation Company for delays in ferry sailings.
