Kymani stays on top schoolwork at home
Nine-year-old Kymani Dematas is enjoying learning his subjects online. The standard three student of Arima Boys' RC School said he's not missing being in a classroom too much.
“It’s good that I don't have to go to physical school. I like doing school work on my electronics. It is better, I like doing my school work at home. It is more interesting,” he told Newsday Kids at his home in Santa Rosa Heights, Arima. He does his work with his teacher Ms Robert using Whatsapp and Zoom. He has online classes in mathematics, vocabulary, religion, science, Social Studies and Comprehension.
“I get up in the morning and watch TV and then school work starts," he said.
There are some things he longs to do again.
"I really miss going to the beach and seeing my friends, especially Peter. I also miss football practice on Friday evenings. Sometimes I play football with my big brother,” he said.
Kymani and all school children have been home since March when schools were closed because of the covid19 pandemic. Schools are expected to reopen on September 1.
Until then, he is focussed on his online studies. And when classes are over he enjoys playing games on his Ipad and on the Drops app, as well as cricket with family.
What does he to be when he grows up? A policeman.
"I want to be like Gary (Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith). I like how he fights crime,” he declared. And, after that final thought, Kymani went off to ride his bicycle.
