Ramlogan’s case adjourned to April 27

Former Attorney General Anand Ramlogan spent less than five minutes in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court yesterday when he reappeared on two criminal charges of misbehaviour in public office and obstruction of justice.

Ramlogan’s case was called before acting Chief Magistrate Maria Busby Earle-Caddle, who was informed by prosecutor Insp Winston Dillon that the police file had only recently been given to his seniors by the police officer who laid the charges, and is yet to be sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for a prosecutor to be appointed.

As a result, the case was adjourned to April 27.

Ramlogan is charged as a result of a report made by director of the Police Complaints Authority David West on January 28, 2015.

According to the obstruction of justice charge, Ramlogan reasonably believed that West was a potential witness in judicial proceedings and used threats, bribery or other means to dissuade West from giving evidence contrary to Section 11(2) (A) of the Criminal Offences Act.

Ramlogan was arrested at his home in Palmiste, south Trinidad, in August.

He was placed on $350,000 bail which was approved when he appeared before deputy acting Chief Magistrate Nanette Forde-John.

He was not called on to enter a plea as the charges were laid indictably.
