THE EDITOR: On Wednesday my wife and I decided to go for a walk in the West Park Savannah, Diego Martin. It is a place to exercise (walking, running), for children to play and a place to relax.

The idea of a savannah in the west was thought up by many of the residents living in Diego Martin, Westmoorings, Glencoe, Carenage and all the other surrounding areas.

When I went there a few months ago it was well kept with the grass nicely cut, lots of trees newly planted and a paved area for exercising. Unfortunately, Wednesday it was the opposite of what it was supposed to be. The grass was high, there were old garbage bags and plenty of bush left from the last cutting – just very untidy.

I asked someone who goes there regularly about the maintenance of the savannah and who is responsible for the area. I was told it is the Diego Martin Regional Corporation. I was taken aback because the corporation's administrative complex is situated north of the savannah and has a full view of the park.

I thought of calling or e-mailing the corporation but realised that would be a waste of time. I recall on July 27 sending an e-mail to the chairman of the corporation concerning some matters I wanted to discuss with him, but I never got a response. I guess he is too busy to respond or is just not interested in corresponding with the people in his district.

This is why areas like Diego Martin, Petit Valley and most of the surrounding places, the roads and pavements, are in such a terrible condition – because no one in charge really cares or seem not to care.

I am sure if the Prime Minister was to go, unannounced, and see for himself what I am talking about, he would not be pleased with the situation.
